Chen Guangmei (1911–1999) was born in Huaining, Anhui Province. He was the youngest son of Chen Duxiu, a distinguished modern Chinese thinker, leader of the New Culture Movement and one of the principal founders of the Communist Party of China. His mother was Gao Junman, Chen Duxiu’s second wife. Among all of Chen Duxiu’s children, Chen Guangmei remained the most low-profile and reclusive. Staying away from politics throughout his life and settling in Sichuan for decades, he was one of the very few descendants of Chen Duxiu who enjoyed a peaceful and stable old age. Life Story

Unlike his elder brothers Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian, who devoted themselves to the revolution and died heroically, and his sister Chen Zimei, who led a wandering and turbulent life, Chen Guangmei chose seclusion amid national unrest.
Affected by modern wars and special historical circumstances, he moved to rural Sichuan in his youth, staying far from political centers and concealing his prominent family background.
